Seven Brief Lessons on Physics – Carlo Rovelli
Just yesterday this book was delivered to my house. I had purchased it because the blurb looked really interesting. “Here, on the edge of what we know, in contact with the ocean of the unknown, shines the mystery and the beauty of the world. And it’s breathtaking.”
As soon as I signed for the delivery and opened it up, I knew that I was going to read it as soon as I could. I went to university during the day and this book was on my mind, telling me to go home early and read it. I didn’t go home early but left at the end of my last class. As soon as I came home, this book was picked up and I went to my reading corner and started what was a very interesting read.
The book is a very short novel, only 79 pages long which is a very quick read. Carlo Rovelli writes about the most wonderful theories and how crucial they are to physicists today. Rovelli not only writes about the main theories in physics but explains them in an easy to understand way through his examples. So even if you don’t understand physics, the examples will help you to understand the theories.
The chapters are broken up into 6 lessons and a final chapter of In Closing. There is also an index at the back so the reader can look up different theorists and their works. Each of the lessons in the book relate to each other and show the reader how that theory has changed over time to adapt to the modern world.
Not only is it a wonderful book but the cover is stunning, the rose gold foil on the cloth cover is really beautiful. The size of the book is just a little bigger than my palm, and is very easy to hold open with one hand.
In high school I really enjoyed science but never did physics, I was really bad at maths so I would be a terrible physics student. Learning about different thing such as the electromagnetic spectrum and how energy waves are perceived was very interesting.
I really enjoyed the book, it was a fantastic and interesting read. It has educated me on different theories as well as how they relate to everyday life.
