SUMMARY

The latest in the Maple Hills series follows two summer camp counselors who reconnect after a sizzling one-night stand.
Maple Hills students Russ Callaghan and Aurora Roberts cross paths at a party celebrating the end of the academic year, where a drinking game results in them having a passionate one-night stand. Never one to overstay her welcome (or expect much from a man), Aurora slips away before Russ even has the chance to ask for her full name.
Imagine their surprise when they bump into each other on the first day of the summer camp where they are both counselors, hoping to escape their complicated home lives by spending the summer working. Russ hopes if he gets far enough away from Maple Hills, he can avoid dealing with the repercussions of his father’s gambling addiction, while Aurora is tired of craving attention from everyone around her, and wants to go back to the last place she truly felt at home.
Russ knows breaking the camp’s strict “no staff fraternizing” rule will have him heading back to Maple Hills before the summer is over, but unfortunately for him, Aurora has never been very good at caring about the rules. Will the two learn to peacefully coexist? Or did their one night together start a fire they can’t put out?

REVIEW
Wildfire is the second book I’ve read by Hannah Grace, I read Icebreaker last year. This book follows Russ, one of the hockey players that was mentioned in Icebreaker. This was a fairly fast read for me, which was like how Icebreaker was for me as well. I really enjoyed Icebreaker and decided to read Wildfire to go back to Maple Hills – well we start out in Maple Hills before we go to the summer camp – Honey Acres.
We start Wildfire with a one night stand with Russ and Aurora (Rory) after a party at the hockey house. Russ is a little shy and tries to work up the courage to ask Rory out after their hook up but Rory misunderstands and leaves. Not thinking she will see Russ again, her and her friend Emilia go to Honey Acres to be camp counsellors like they had planned not knowing that Russ was also attending as a counsellor to earn some money for the Summer.
Now both Russ and Rory have some daddy issues, Russ’ dad has a gambling addiction where he constantly reaches out to Russ for money and Rory’s dad is more focused on his girlfriend and her daughter than being there for Rory. Russ doesn’t like to speak about his dad’s issues and just wants to block it out by ignoring his dad where as Rory wants her dads attention and actually acted out as a kid to try and gain that attention from him.
We have a dual POV in this book and Hannah Grace really did a good job on getting both voices out in the novel. I could really relate to both characters and how they are both such bad communicators with each other. I really relate to Russ with his rule following (rules are such easy things to live by) but when he broke the rules with Rory, that was such a long build up to but it was so worth the wait.
Don’t even get me started on the dogs – Fish, Salmon & Trout, acting like little shadows around them. They remind me of my own dogs, though my older dog – Ellie is much more chill and relaxed where as my younger dog – Frankie is so hyper and a shadow to me. I love any book that includes dogs really hahaha.
This book pulled me into reading it, whenever I stopped reading it due to work or other commitments, all I wanted to do was read this. Hannah Grace really does that well with her books as that was the same for Icebreaker for me. I’m going to guess that the next book in the Maple Hills series – Daydream is going to do the same for me as well.
I gave this a 4 star rating and will most likely be reading Daydream later this year.
